Solar Villages - Honduras

 

Infopoverty 2001 made possible with the cooperation of OCCAM and COHCIT (Consejo Hondureno de Ciencia y Tecnologia), the construction of two solar villages in Honduras inthe cities of

- San Ramon: Inhabitants 15
- San Francisco: Inhabitants 1000

The intention of the project is to develop an Integrated Social Development Program, which included digital Connectivity, institutionalized by the government.

 
In this way, it was possible to asist the most vulnerable sector of rural society, improving sustainable integrated development through an adequate community organization, connectivity and productive processes. The Solar Village provided solar energy, health centre, refirgirator, medicines, reparation and enlargement of the energy supply of the school, construction and electrification of the cultural centre and town library. The Solar Village also supplied computer, digital camera, colour and black and white printer and educational programmes.
