OCCAM donates 10 computers to a School in South Lebanon Beirut

The Observatory for Cultural and Audiovisual Communication (OCCAM) in Italy has donated 10 computers to a technical school in the town of Meiss el-Jabal, south Lebanon.

This donation, wich was promoted by the Personal Representative of the Secretary-General for Southern Lebanon, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, represents the first step in OCCAM's project to create "Digital villages in south Lebanon", whit further contributions expected in the future.

The computers will be installed by UNIFIL's Humanitarian Cell in a technical training school in Meiss el-Jabal, where UNIFIL provides backstopping and support services. The ten computers, wich were kindly delivered to Lebanon free of charge by Alitalia Cargo, have been officially handed over in a ceremony held at the technical training school in Meiss el-Jabal at 12:00 pm on Tuesday 20 May 2003.

Mr. Qabalan Qabalan, Head the Council of the South, MPs from the area and the local authorities have been invited to attend the event. Representatives of the Italian Embassy in Beirut, wich facilitated shipment of the computers, have been also present.
